Win a Trip to Space

Ever fancied travelling to Space? For all of you out there that can afford to pay for a once in a lifetime trip you have Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic. Aspiring astronauts have been able to reserve a place since 2005 and on doing so have secured their membership to possibly one of the world’s most exclusive clubs. And although SpaceShipTwo is yet to depart, the members have access to all aspects of the project as it progresses. For the rest of us there appears to be a few special ‘Space’ competitions!

Recently we have had the Lynx one – this is now closed although the Australian comp is still active.  The UK one had over 87,000 entries where the entrants had to get family and friends to vote for them, this resulted in a massive 820,850 votes! The numbers have now been whittled down to 200, all of who are now part of an elite group that are on the verge of making history with Lynx Apollo. The select few will endure a day of physical and mental stamina tests in front of a live audience at a top secret London location. Details of this are yet to be released, but, wow – how exciting!
We have also had the KLM competition which offered the winner a trip on the very first commercial flight to Space. A chap named Pedro from Brazil won this coveted prize after guessing the height at which a high altitude balloon, released above the Nevada desert by KLM on April 22, popped and fell back to Earth. His scheduled flight is due to depart on January 1, 2014 lasting approximately one hour.
Finally the Daily Mirror launched their Star Trek competition on May 11 to celebrate the release of the film. Entrants all have their own unique Star Trek Into Darkness gamecard which was inside Saturday’s (11th May) paper. The comp was played over 5 days by marking off symbols and numbers – so basically if the symbol and number on the card matched those published in the paper, you marked them off. Each gamecard contained 10 symbols of items that are essential for a trip into space, each of which had 3 numbers between 01 and 99 allocated to it.
If you marked all 3 numbers off under 1 of the symbols over the course of the game you claimed the corresponding prize. First prize is a trip into Space which includes flights for the winner and a companion to go to Curacao in the Caribbean, a hotel stay and an incredible space-flight 64 miles / 103 km up into space at 4G’s of thrust.
Space flights are still in development so the prize is subject to availability with an alternative of £50,000. But, I’m sure as we edge closer to that first flight many more competitions will be doing the rounds. We’ll look out for them at Simply Prizes and ensure you are the first to know!
