SP Xtra: Editor's Blog

Hi, my name's Sammy and I'm the Editor of Simply Prizes magazine. Every week I'll be bringing you an update or two about any interesting competitions I find or any comping news. Plus I'll bring you any competitions or offers I find.

Here we go again...the start of a new comping month!

I can't quite believe we are already in May! I do always love the start of a new month though; I tot up what I won from the previous month and create a wish-list for the new one. Top of my list is tickets for attractions close to York; we're off there on a holiday I won so I plan on keeping my eyes peeled for any 'local' comps I can find for the area. You might want to keep your eyes peeled across social media on Thursday too for any themed Star Wars comps. It is May the fourth be with you day, and promoters often run competitions alongside this. Using hashtags such as #maythefourth or #starwarsday will help you find them.

And talking of competitions make sure you head on over to our Simply Prizes website where you will find a bumper crop of comps! 150 brand new ones have just been added to the site  and there are some fab getaways waiting for you.

Then to top it off take a look at the comp I've found to share with you all; how do you and three friends fancy staying overnight in a top London hotel and getting your hands on a bunch of goodies to create your own perfect cocktails at home? TGIFridays are giving you the chance to do exactly that. Just tell them here in no more than 200 words what you love about your favourite TGI Fridays cocktail. Entries close on 6th June. Top tip - winner is selected at random so don't worry too much about what you are writing!

Did you know that you only have until this Friday to spend your old five pound notes? The new plastic fiver was launched back in September and the older ones have been gradually phased out. However if you have any lurking make sure you spend them before the 5th! The same goes for the new £1 coin; although you have until 15th October to spend that one. You can get more information from the Bank of England here ; who have said they will continue to exchange them after this date.

If you buy May's edition of BBC Gardeners' World mag then you can grab yourself a rather nice freebie with it; you'll get a 2 for 1 card that grants you entry to nearly 400 UK gardens. Places such as the Eden project are available to visit and considering it costs almost £30 for an on the day adult ticket you can make some decent savings. Take a look here for more info.

McDonald's Monopoly ends today so it's your last chance to grab a Big Mac and win! If you do have any free food/drink stickers lying around you can claim these up until 16th May and for any non-food prize stickers you have until 2nd June to redeem.

Be sure to head on over to our Facebook page  where you will find a selection of competitions; it's also a wonderful comping community where you can chat to other compers and share your own comping news and advice.

Good luck and happy comping!

Tuesday Talk! (And a little prize draw!)

There are always hundreds of EOM (end of month) comps doing the rounds and I just wondered how many of you managed to be organised enough to do them? Every month I tell myself to start entering them in the middle of the month by doing a few each day so I’m not so inundated on the last day, but I never do! So tonight I’ll be settling down as early as I can and ploughing my way through as many as I can. (Vowing to myself that things will be different next month, ha ha!)

I tend to be quite organised with my comping routine but the EOM stuff just beats me every time. My main comping time is in the evenings but I do try and sneak some dailies in through the day if I can. I concentrate on staying a few days ahead of the closing dates so I can have an evening off every weekend and I keep a spreadsheet of wins to track prizes.

So, how do you organise your comping? I’d love to hear from you and I’d like to post the best tips on our Facebook page to help other compers get their game into gear! So you can either post on our wall  or email me at: info@oxonpress.co.uk. And at the end of the month I’ll choose my favourite to win a little something.
