SP Xtra: Editor's Blog

Hi, my name's Sammy and I'm the Editor of Simply Prizes magazine. Every week I'll be bringing you an update or two about any interesting competitions I find or any comping news. Plus I'll bring you any competitions or offers I find.

Kids and comping!

My little terrors break up for half term today, so while the hubby is at golf (it’s his birthday…he’s 42…shush!) I’m making the most of the peace and quiet and grabbing some last minute comping before next week where I will descend into playing referee (fighting siblings – argh!), taxi driver and all round entertainer! We Mums know how to multi-task that’s for sure!

However, both my younger two enjoy a spot of comping themselves and because February still means the weather is really rather rubbish I have plans to get them involved in this wonderful hobby of mine to pass the time!

So, I will be scouring local shopping centres, the library, and newspapers and listening to the local radio in the hope of finding some short-closing ‘local’ comps. A lot of promoters will run competitions when the kids are off. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the social media pages of local companies too. I’ll also take a trip to the supermarket and let the children choose some shop to win goodies (within reason!); they love spotting products with the word ‘win’ on them, and I’ll also get a couple of kiddie magazines which nearly always have comps in that they can enter.

If you are out and about keep your eyes and ears peeled when on your travels as often different outlets run in-store promotions which can sometimes have pretty low entry rates. And take photos, lots of them! Children usually make the most willing models and you can store them up for future creative photo comps! And if you can get a few local landmarks in the pic too even better for any ‘local’ comps that might require this!

Also keep an eye on this week’s comp update and next week’s too – we always feature some great comps for the kids!

And I find wine a great stress reliever in the evenings when the little monsters are in bed – you might want to stock up on some of that when you visit the supermarket!

Have fun and see you on the other side!

Tuesday Talk! (And a little prize draw!)

There are always hundreds of EOM (end of month) comps doing the rounds and I just wondered how many of you managed to be organised enough to do them? Every month I tell myself to start entering them in the middle of the month by doing a few each day so I’m not so inundated on the last day, but I never do! So tonight I’ll be settling down as early as I can and ploughing my way through as many as I can. (Vowing to myself that things will be different next month, ha ha!)

I tend to be quite organised with my comping routine but the EOM stuff just beats me every time. My main comping time is in the evenings but I do try and sneak some dailies in through the day if I can. I concentrate on staying a few days ahead of the closing dates so I can have an evening off every weekend and I keep a spreadsheet of wins to track prizes.

So, how do you organise your comping? I’d love to hear from you and I’d like to post the best tips on our Facebook page to help other compers get their game into gear! So you can either post on our wall  or email me at: info@oxonpress.co.uk. And at the end of the month I’ll choose my favourite to win a little something.
