SP Xtra: Editor's Blog

Hi, my name's Sammy and I'm the Editor of Simply Prizes magazine. Every week I'll be bringing you an update or two about any interesting competitions I find or any comping news. Plus I'll bring you any competitions or offers I find.

Friday’s Comping Chatter!

I love Fridays; thoughts of the children finishing school, the hubby finishing work and that long needed end-of-week glass of wine; which is exactly what I am planning for tonight alongside some comps. I am trying to get a few more days ahead on a Friday night so that on a Saturday I have a night off – well this is my plan for 2017 and so far, so good! I really am sticking to my comping resolutions! Oh shush, I know we are only two weeks in but I am continuing to feel motivated and keeping with my routine is making me feel ultra-organised!

Now if the weekends leave you struggling for things to do with the children (blasted cold weather!) then take a look at this. 500 words is back -  Chris Evan’s short story writing competition for kids.

500 words is open to children aged 5-13 in the UK and has become one of the most popular short story writing comps going. There is a live lesson on Monday 16th at 11am which will provide great inspiration and ideas for children wanting to enter the competition.

There are first, second and third prizes and also the top 50 shortlisted entrants will receive a pair of tickets to the final.

Entries don’t open until Monday 16th at 8am and close on Thursday 23rd February at 7pm. You can access the online entry form at www.bbc.co.uk/500words from Monday. And the full terms and conditions can be found here.

I’ll definitely be encouraging Abigail to enter this; I think I’ll be talking to the wall with Barnaby who would much rather hold an Xbox controller than a pen! But if you have a child that loves to write and is imaginative then this could be the perfect comp for them.

Good luck to all my little SP’ers!

Have a good weekend!

Tuesday Talk! (And a little prize draw!)

There are always hundreds of EOM (end of month) comps doing the rounds and I just wondered how many of you managed to be organised enough to do them? Every month I tell myself to start entering them in the middle of the month by doing a few each day so I’m not so inundated on the last day, but I never do! So tonight I’ll be settling down as early as I can and ploughing my way through as many as I can. (Vowing to myself that things will be different next month, ha ha!)

I tend to be quite organised with my comping routine but the EOM stuff just beats me every time. My main comping time is in the evenings but I do try and sneak some dailies in through the day if I can. I concentrate on staying a few days ahead of the closing dates so I can have an evening off every weekend and I keep a spreadsheet of wins to track prizes.

So, how do you organise your comping? I’d love to hear from you and I’d like to post the best tips on our Facebook page to help other compers get their game into gear! So you can either post on our wall  or email me at: info@oxonpress.co.uk. And at the end of the month I’ll choose my favourite to win a little something.
