SP Xtra: Editor's Blog

Hi, my name's Sammy and I'm the Editor of Simply Prizes magazine. Every week I'll be bringing you an update or two about any interesting competitions I find or any comping news. Plus I'll bring you any competitions or offers I find.

Blog giveaways – what are your views?

I won a really cute little edie & rona set last week from a blog giveaway. I don’t normally win from those, and in all honesty often avoid them because there can be so many entry methods, that it puts me off! You know what I mean….1 entry via Facebook, 1 via Twitter, retweet daily, leave a blog comment etc etc. And sometimes I’ve seen ones where you can earn up to 50 entries! So I tend to only enter for stuff I really want on the blog comps. How about you guys? I’d be interested to know whether you get put off by the amount of entries that some blog giveaways require. You can let me know on our Facebook post here .

So this week’s awareness days where you might find promoters running accompanying comps are; 18th May – International Museum Day, 19th May – Great British Fish and Chip Supper, 22nd May – World Goth Day, 23rd May – World Turtle Day and then from 23rd-27th of this month is the Chelsea Flower show (there are always plenty of comps alongside this, and there are still ones out there to win tickets too!). As always the best way to search for any comps is to use hashtags in the search bar of the social media account you are using.

Keep an eye out tomorrow on here for the new update of Freebie Friday comps; good luck if you’re planning on entering any. Keep an eye on the closing time of these as although they are predominately daily comps I’ve noticed lately that quite a few run into the weekend now. So if you’re at work in the day and don’t get time there will still be plenty that you can enter once you’re home for the evening.

As always I’m around in the evenings via our Facebook page if you fancy joining me for a comping chat.

Have a great weekend and good luck with the comps.

Tuesday Talk! (And a little prize draw!)

There are always hundreds of EOM (end of month) comps doing the rounds and I just wondered how many of you managed to be organised enough to do them? Every month I tell myself to start entering them in the middle of the month by doing a few each day so I’m not so inundated on the last day, but I never do! So tonight I’ll be settling down as early as I can and ploughing my way through as many as I can. (Vowing to myself that things will be different next month, ha ha!)

I tend to be quite organised with my comping routine but the EOM stuff just beats me every time. My main comping time is in the evenings but I do try and sneak some dailies in through the day if I can. I concentrate on staying a few days ahead of the closing dates so I can have an evening off every weekend and I keep a spreadsheet of wins to track prizes.

So, how do you organise your comping? I’d love to hear from you and I’d like to post the best tips on our Facebook page to help other compers get their game into gear! So you can either post on our wall  or email me at: info@oxonpress.co.uk. And at the end of the month I’ll choose my favourite to win a little something.
