SP Xtra: Editor's Blog

Hi, my name's Sammy and I'm the Editor of Simply Prizes magazine. Every week I'll be bringing you an update or two about any interesting competitions I find or any comping news. Plus I'll bring you any competitions or offers I find.

Win yourself some cash!

After my cash win of £500 through Chat magazine it got me thinking about gameshows; as most of you probably know I’ve now done three. Two of which I won cash prizes on and one where I went out in the first round (ha!). However, win or lose the experience is fantastic and I’ll never forget any of them. But winning that money last week has given me the urge to take a look and see which ones are looking for contestants. Going on a TV gameshow is a brilliant way of possibly grabbing yourself a fair amount of money. The first one I ever did with a mate we walked away with £17,000! For any hints and tips about applying for shows you can read my full guide here. So take a look below at a selection of current shows that are open for applications; good luck and don’t forget to let me know if you apply for any. You can contact me via email (info@oxonpress.co.uk) or our Facebook page .

  • Gary Barlow’s new show is looking for contestants; so if you’re pretty good at singing and dancing then this could be for you! Applications are only open until 2pm on 12th August so be quick! Apply here.
  • Apply here to Decimate, hosted by Shane Richie. Again be quick as only open until 29th July.
  • The Chase (if you’re brave enough!) is looking for contestants for series 10. You can apply here and there is no closing date mentioned.
  • The Chase is also looking for families to take part in The Chase Family Edition. Applications are open until 7th October. Apply here.
  • Fifteen to One is open for applications; I can’t see any closing date mentioned. Apply here .

See you on the TV!

Entertain your kids for free this summer

I had a day out at Legoland with the family last week and to top off a lovely trip I came home to a letter from Chat magazine telling me I had won £500! It's been a fantastic way to start the holidays and has given me some more spending money for Disneyland Paris where we go next week. Cash wins are such a bonus, and another way of grabbing yourself some pounds can be through TV gameshows. On my blog you'll find some links to ones that are currently looking for contestants.

In the meantime it's over to you guys for my pick of the comps for this week; child themed due to the summer hols. Good luck!

Butlins has one of three family tickets to see Horrible Histories: The Best of Barmy Britain live in the West End up for grabs. Just enter your details here before 23.59 on 8th August.

Littlebird are offering you the chance to win a Scholastic Children's Books summer reading book bundle worth over £100. Submit your entry here before 12th August.

Intu Victoria Centre has an amazing prize of a suite for 10 people to see Disney on Ice presents Frozen at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham on Saturday 19th November at 10.30am. Enter your details here before 23.59 on 31st August.

If like me you are off on your hols abroad soon then do make sure your EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) is valid. This is a small credit card sized card that enables you to get free or discounted medical care in all EU countries and more. It doesn't replace travel insurance but you'll be entitled to the same treatment that local residents get. So if they get free medical treatment then so do you - if they pay, you pay exactly the same costs. If your EHIC needs renewing or you don't yet have one you can apply here. Be careful about googling this card though as often searches can take you to 'dodgy' sites where you'll be asked to pay for this and this card is completely free.

Good luck and happy comping!

Tuesday Talk! (And a little prize draw!)

There are always hundreds of EOM (end of month) comps doing the rounds and I just wondered how many of you managed to be organised enough to do them? Every month I tell myself to start entering them in the middle of the month by doing a few each day so I’m not so inundated on the last day, but I never do! So tonight I’ll be settling down as early as I can and ploughing my way through as many as I can. (Vowing to myself that things will be different next month, ha ha!)

I tend to be quite organised with my comping routine but the EOM stuff just beats me every time. My main comping time is in the evenings but I do try and sneak some dailies in through the day if I can. I concentrate on staying a few days ahead of the closing dates so I can have an evening off every weekend and I keep a spreadsheet of wins to track prizes.

So, how do you organise your comping? I’d love to hear from you and I’d like to post the best tips on our Facebook page to help other compers get their game into gear! So you can either post on our wall  or email me at: info@oxonpress.co.uk. And at the end of the month I’ll choose my favourite to win a little something.
