SP Xtra: Editor's Blog

Hi, my name's Sammy and I'm the Editor of Simply Prizes magazine. Every week I'll be bringing you an update or two about any interesting competitions I find or any comping news. Plus I'll bring you any competitions or offers I find.

Lap up two-nights of luxury with this week's star comp!

I hope everyone that celebrated Mother's Day had a good one; we enjoyed a very lazy Sunday here in the Fairman household and the younger two treated me to a new Pandora ring and the eldest a joint Mother's Day/Father's Day weekend away with the hubby for later in the year. So one very spoilt Mummy here! It's a very busy comping week now as we are heading into the last few days of March; there are always lots of end of month comps doing the rounds and they can take a while to get through so you may want to allow yourself some extra comping time over the next couple of days. My pick of the bunch this week's comps are £500 worth of gardening equipment which is always handy at this time of the year and a camera kit worth £599, great for those photo comp entries!

Now I've also found a corker of a prize this week too to share with you all. Who fancies a luxury spa break? Of course you do! Coast Magazine is giving away two nights' dinner, bed and breakfast in an Ocean View room, with a 60-minute spa treatment per guest and a bottle of Camel Valley sparkling wine in your room on arrival at the iconic Headland Hotel in Cornwall. To get your name in the draw you need to answer the following question here before midnight on 28th April; which Cornish beach does The Headland hotel overlook? Suggested answer - Fistral Beach.

Café Rouge is giving you the chance to help them celebrate Poisson d'Avril - a day when children in France stick paper fish onto the backs of friends and family as an April fool's joke. So if you fancy some free ice-cream, print out your paper fish and attach it to the back of a waiter on Saturday 1st or Sunday 2nd April. Make sure to shout Poisson d'Avril or April's Fool and you'll be rewarded with some free ice-cream! Not only that but to give us a helping hand during the Easter break Café Rouge are letting the kids eat free . Receive one free kid's meal with every adult main or set menu purchased from 3rd-17th April.

If you are part of the My Waitrose scheme and enjoy your free tea or coffee, from the 3rd April you won't just be able to go and grab your freebie. You will need to make a purchase first. There is no minimum spend and you only need to buy one item but there are some purchases that don't qualify such as tobacco and stamps. So be sure to check first.

A few weeks back I spoke about the McDonald's Monopoly competition starting again; it began on Wednesday and if you happen to be taking part then make sure to check all of your stickers - especially the online codes! These are the ones where you can bag yourself some instant cash! A lot of people will just throw these away but it's worth entering; it only takes a minute (I won a tenner last year). And there are two cash prizes to be won every minute ranging from £5 - £100. As this part of the comp is classed as a winning moment, think about when you enter your codes! Try not to enter at peak times, for example lunchtimes and evening meal times as lots of other people will be entering so your chances will be less. But if you're up early or even in the middle of the night try then, you will definitely have more chance of success!

As always keep an eye on my blog  for more competition news and chat.

Good luck and happy comping!

Tuesday Talk! (And a little prize draw!)

There are always hundreds of EOM (end of month) comps doing the rounds and I just wondered how many of you managed to be organised enough to do them? Every month I tell myself to start entering them in the middle of the month by doing a few each day so I’m not so inundated on the last day, but I never do! So tonight I’ll be settling down as early as I can and ploughing my way through as many as I can. (Vowing to myself that things will be different next month, ha ha!)

I tend to be quite organised with my comping routine but the EOM stuff just beats me every time. My main comping time is in the evenings but I do try and sneak some dailies in through the day if I can. I concentrate on staying a few days ahead of the closing dates so I can have an evening off every weekend and I keep a spreadsheet of wins to track prizes.

So, how do you organise your comping? I’d love to hear from you and I’d like to post the best tips on our Facebook page to help other compers get their game into gear! So you can either post on our wall  or email me at: info@oxonpress.co.uk. And at the end of the month I’ll choose my favourite to win a little something.
