SP Xtra: Editor's Blog

Hi, my name's Sammy and I'm the Editor of Simply Prizes magazine. Every week I'll be bringing you an update or two about any interesting competitions I find or any comping news. Plus I'll bring you any competitions or offers I find.

Five minutes of stardom!

I had a bit of an unusual experience recently where I did some filming work for a TV production company. They came to my house and alongside three other members of my family we all took part – it certainly gave the neighbours something to talk about!

I came across this opportunity purely by chance. I follow a twitter feed called Cast Me which I regularly look at for quiz show posts. It’s a platform used by different TV companies who are all looking for everyday people to take part in a host of different shows. Some may be giving you the chance to apply for a quiz show, others are posting about people looking to appear in a new documentary and others may be for things like extras or what I took part in. Most will pay you too!

A lot will be looking for people at short notice so if you can be flexible then even better! I tend to give it a browse every 1-2 days as updates go on throughout the day and I don’t want to miss anything interesting!

Often once the researchers have your details they will keep your name on file and contact you should anything that matches your specifications come up. Sometimes they may even email you about a show asking you to pass it on to anyone that may match what they are looking for.

Take a look and let me know what you think; especially if you end up taking part in something! You can drop me a line via email on info@oxonpress.co.uk or post on our Facebook wall.

Good luck!

Tuesday Talk! (And a little prize draw!)

There are always hundreds of EOM (end of month) comps doing the rounds and I just wondered how many of you managed to be organised enough to do them? Every month I tell myself to start entering them in the middle of the month by doing a few each day so I’m not so inundated on the last day, but I never do! So tonight I’ll be settling down as early as I can and ploughing my way through as many as I can. (Vowing to myself that things will be different next month, ha ha!)

I tend to be quite organised with my comping routine but the EOM stuff just beats me every time. My main comping time is in the evenings but I do try and sneak some dailies in through the day if I can. I concentrate on staying a few days ahead of the closing dates so I can have an evening off every weekend and I keep a spreadsheet of wins to track prizes.

So, how do you organise your comping? I’d love to hear from you and I’d like to post the best tips on our Facebook page to help other compers get their game into gear! So you can either post on our wall  or email me at: info@oxonpress.co.uk. And at the end of the month I’ll choose my favourite to win a little something.
