My kiddies have broken up from school and they’ve got a massive seven weeks off! I’m sure I’ll survive the long summer hols…just!
My own personal comping does always take a bit of a back seat in the summer break however this is the time where I try and take lots of photos whilst we are out and about with the children (they make such willing models) and they come in very handy for creative photographic comps. Often at this time of the year promoters are just looking for ‘summer’ themed pictures, so be sure to always have your smart phone to hand when you’re out on your travels. Local companies may also be looking for ‘local’ pics, so try and include famous local landmarks etc. in your frame! Silly action shots of the kids always go down a treat too and if you can snap anything unusual even better! Keep the pictures in a separate folder either on your phone or transferred across to your PC so you have lots to hand to enter when the time comes.
Keep an eye and ear out on local press and radio as they will advertise ‘local’ comps and there are always lots at this time of the year. Even libraries get in on the act – my local one has a reading challenge that the kids can sign up to. Social media pages of local shopping centres and outlets can be a good source of comps as can local theatres and parks. Often they will have kid themed competitions which are a fun way to get the children involved in your hobby!
And don’t forget we feature kid’s comps in our weekly update too! Be sure to let me know if your children are lucky over the holidays; you can contact me via email at email@example.com with kid’s comps in the subject line or via our Facebook page. If I hear of any national comps that the children can get involved in I’ll post details there!
P.S *TOP TIP* If you do have some personal spare time then try entering comps for yourself. The summer months (especially July and August when the children are away from school) often sees a decline in entries as a lot of people are out and about with the family or off on their hols; so make the most of this and nab some prizes if you can!
