SP Xtra: Editor's Blog

Hi, my name's Sammy and I'm the Editor of Simply Prizes magazine. Every week I'll be bringing you an update or two about any interesting competitions I find or any comping news. Plus I'll bring you any competitions or offers I find.

Get your inbox organised here!

I've not had much time for comping over the last week; the children had a teacher training day Friday so we made the most of that and nipped off to Legoland (which was free as I got the tickets through my saved up Clubcard points), then Abigail had her 8th birthday party Saturday and a friend's party on Sunday. My emails have built up and it's the end of the month which means there are literally hundreds of comps doing the rounds! So, I've decided to start afresh on the 1st July and use Unroll Me to help sort my emails. Unroll Me is a program that sorts through all your newsletter subscriptions and presents them to you in alphabetical order, and you can quickly zip through and unsubscribe to the ones you don't want. After clicking on five it will ask you to like them on Facebook or send a tweet. And then you can carry on. Some compers prefer to go through their emails manually but if like me they've built up to thousands this can be a really quick and easy way of getting on top of them again. Lesson learnt - be more 'email' organised!

Now talking of being organised, the Simply Prizes website can help you do just that! When entering our comps you can keep track of how many you have entered and filter your entry methods , which makes it really easy to just choose what ones you want to enter if you are running short of time. And don't forget a lovely new batch of comps was added yesterday with a whole host of different prizes up for grabs.

And take a look at the comp I've found to share with you all this week; how do you fancy a seaside break in Cornwall worth over £4,000? Yes? I thought you might! Grand Designs is offering you the chance to spend a week in a Cornish holiday cottage built by Grand Designs designer, Ian Hogarth. To be in with a chance answer the following question here before 19th July; in which Cornish town are Hogarth's holiday homes located? Suggested answer - Bude.

As we edge more into the summer months it is worth checking out the water efficiency website 'Save Water Save Money' . You can input your postcode to find out what free products and services you qualify. Products are delivered by your supplier for free and within 28 days usually. I've ordered several items for absolutely nothing. Save Water Save Money say that the gadgets could potentially save over £100 on your water and energy bills.

Outdoor gyms are becoming exceedingly popular especially in the warmer months, and they are also completely free. Councils are funding outdoor gyms and hope that it will promote healthier lifestyles. Your local council should be able to provide details of any outdoor gyms but you can also look at The Great Outdoor Gym Company and Wicksteed who both provide the equipment for the outdoor gyms.

Also be sure to head on over to our Facebook page where you will find a selection of competitions; it's also a wonderful comping community where you can chat to other compers and share your own comping news and advice.

Week six – summer holiday kid’s comps! The end!

That’s it; the end is in sight - the kids are back to school next week! I actually can’t believe how quickly it has gone and it seems odd as we are still on our summer holiday. Back home Saturday though to a mountain of washing and getting the kids prepped for school. Although I was ultra-organised this year and all school uniform was bought, washed and ironed in the first week of the holidays; which is a nice feeling knowing it’s already done!

And to keep them occupied for the last few days, here are a couple more comps for the kids to get stuck into.

Win some Emoji merchandise by helping the kids to upload a fun selfie. Under 16’s must be entered by a parent. You can enter up to three times every day until 30th November although a maximum of one prize per week can be won by one person. More details and info on how to enter can be found here .

Draw your dream dinosaur and have the chance to get it printed on a giant bean bag and a family ticket to the Dinosaurs of China exhibition. Open to entrants aged 11 and under you have until midnight on 30th September to enter. Full details and entry info can be found here .

Have fun with these ones and remember normality is nearly here! Keep an eye on the website tomorrow for your update of social media comps too. I may not be around tomorrow evening as will be getting ready to leave the lodge early Saturday morning but I’ll catch up with you all via our Facebook page when I’m back.

Have a great weekend.
