SP Xtra: Editor's Blog

Hi, my name's Sammy and I'm the Editor of Simply Prizes magazine. Every week I'll be bringing you an update or two about any interesting competitions I find or any comping news. Plus I'll bring you any competitions or offers I find.

April's Comping Calendar

I can’t quite believe that we are almost at the end of another month! Good bye March, hello April. However; I am actually quite sad to be seeing the back of March – it’s been a spectacular comping month for me with my winnings topping £500. And yesterday more goodies arrived, no idea where from, but a lovely way to round of the prizes.

But, onwards we go, and I have my fingers crossed that the next month is going to be a lucky one for us all too. At the end of each month I always supply you with a list of ‘dates’; themed days that promoters might run comps alongside. Most will be run across social media and the best way to hunt them down will be using a hashtag before the named day in the search bar of whatever site you are on.

1st – April’s Fool’s Day

2nd – International Children’s Book Day

3rd – World Party Day

4th – Cordon Bleu Day

4th – National School Librarian Day

5th – National Walking Day

6th – National Tartan Day

7th – National No Housework Day – yay!

7th – National Beer Day

9th – National Winston Churchill Day

10th – National Farm Animals Day

10th – National Sibling’s Day

10th – National Library Week

11th – National Pet Day

11th – National Gardening Week

12th – Liquorice Day

13th – National Scrabble Day

14th – Good Friday

16th – Easter Sunday

17th - World Malbec Day

17th – World Baking Day

18th – 24th International Dining Week

22nd – Earth Day

24th – National Stationary Week

27th – World Stationary Day

29th – World Wish Day

These should keep you going through the month and some will require your creative skills – such as Easter! And it’s always good to try and prepare in advance so time to get painting those eggs!

Don’t forget I am around in the evenings via our Facebook page if you fancy a comping chat!

Enjoy your Freebie Friday tomorrow (look out for the update of comps!) and have a great weekend!

Tuesday Talk! (And a little prize draw!)

There are always hundreds of EOM (end of month) comps doing the rounds and I just wondered how many of you managed to be organised enough to do them? Every month I tell myself to start entering them in the middle of the month by doing a few each day so I’m not so inundated on the last day, but I never do! So tonight I’ll be settling down as early as I can and ploughing my way through as many as I can. (Vowing to myself that things will be different next month, ha ha!)

I tend to be quite organised with my comping routine but the EOM stuff just beats me every time. My main comping time is in the evenings but I do try and sneak some dailies in through the day if I can. I concentrate on staying a few days ahead of the closing dates so I can have an evening off every weekend and I keep a spreadsheet of wins to track prizes.

So, how do you organise your comping? I’d love to hear from you and I’d like to post the best tips on our Facebook page to help other compers get their game into gear! So you can either post on our wall  or email me at: info@oxonpress.co.uk. And at the end of the month I’ll choose my favourite to win a little something.
