I’m Sammy and along with Dave will be writing about all things comping. I fell in love with comping after appearing on a TV quiz show and haven’t looked back since!
I enjoy the Facebook and Twitter competitions, but lately have started to realise that not all is as it seems in a few of the promotions. The last highlighted scandal was the Skillens comp and I think it has made us all a little on guard about supposedly ‘fake’ ones. Most scams appear via pages that offer the opportunity to win big (usually something like an iPad or similar) by liking and sharing the post. The majority of these are from companies that aren’t well recognised.
If you have doubts about a competition then Facebook have introduced a dedicated email address phish@fb.com, where you can report scammers through the correct channels. Promoters do have to follow rules The ASA provides information on those.
The Institute of Promotional Marketing looks after competitions in the UK and if you have a query about a competition or haven’t received a prize, then they should be your first point of contact if the promoter doesn’t deal with you satisfactorily.
I’ve been immensely successful on Facebook competitions but try not to do too many like and share ones (hard to keep track of these as often the promoters expect the winner to contact them) and go more for the entry form type.
This week I’ve found three great competitions for you including a holiday in Ibiza, this has five questions to answer which will keep the number of entrants down. And if you want to find out how you can enter loads of these sort of compeitions, where you have a great chance of winning, then keep an eye out for Saturaday’s e-mail.
