I’ve become rather housebound since the start of the summer holidays with my son developing the dreaded chicken pox! But, I was lucky enough to win a £50 Argos voucher which has seen me purchase a few new board games in the hope of keeping the kiddies amused. The voucher I won through, believe it or not, a comp on the bottom of an Argos receipt. I’ve always been pretty sceptical of these types of comps, but I will make sure I enter them from now on!

I’m sitting here writing this listening to the rain, so I thought I’d find some comps with prizes that will keep adults and children amused, whatever the weather!

Really Missing Sleep.com has a comp to win a My Uno game. Entry via Rafflecopter (various entry methods; Facebook, blog comment etc.) but the more you do the more you increase your chances. Closing date 8 August.

Kiddy Charts have a game giveaway worth £75. To be in with a chance of winning all five Bananagrams games enter via Rafflecopter again. Closing date 9 August.

What to do with the kids have a £25 cinema ticket and a Monsters Toddler Dining Set also worth £25 up for grabs. For your chance to win simply enter your details and ensure you select ‘Monsters and Munchkin’ in the competition drop down box. Closing date 11 August.

With the summer holidays upon us it can prove to be an expensive time, so I have found a selection of great money saving apps for you.

Redlaser is a handy shopping app available for free on iPhone, Windows and Android. It can scan a barcode on an item and find out where you can buy it for the cheapest price. It recognises where you are so it will give you prices from shops that are local and it can even identify allergens when you scan a food item! You can also buy direct from your phone on this app, and their partner retailers will have the goods waiting for you at a nearby store.

Vouchercloud is perfect if you are looking for savings on a whole host of different things. It gives you access to the best deals, offers and discounts from leading UK retailers and businesses. Voucher codes are available for online shops, and you can access mobile vouchers for instant offers in your pocket, or print vouchers at home. You can download the app which is available on iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows or sign up online.

Weq4u is a handy free app for iPhone and Android that puts you through to 08 UK numbers for free without queuing. Mobile users save approximately 30p per minute on their 0800, 0845, 0844, 0843, 0871 and 0872 calls. These numbers are not normally included in your call plan. Calls to WeQ4U are to a 03 number which means they are part of your monthly minute’s allowance. You can even use your home phone if you don’t have an Android or iPhone.

I’m off to do a little rain dance in the hope that this pesky weather disappears and the sun returns for the rest of our summer!
