Are you a lucky ‘local’ comper?

I won a great local comp last week; two tickets to a cabaret show and dinner at a local restaurant with a bottle of wine. I’m treating my best friend so we are both really looking forward to that. Local competitions are a great source of fairly low entry promotions, as the terms and conditions will sometimes state that it is restricted to the local area. And even if it isn’t, often they are collection-only prizes or ones where you have tickets (like my win) which means that compers outside of your area will normally steer clear. Keep an eye and ear out for comps from local newspapers, radio stations, shopping centres, local flyers etc. as these will advertise promotions regularly. A good idea is to also look at their social media pages too. Do let me know if you are a lucky ‘local’ comper!

As we head into the winter months and we start to prepare for Christmas (eek! I’ve said the word!) I’ve found some great competitions to win things to help with the organising.

For all you bakers out there that create wonderful Christmas cakes, enter to win a Smeg ‘50’s-style stand mixer and a baking hamper from Waitrose. Simply submit your details here by 28th October to be in with a chance.

If you fancy a new TV to watch all those Christmas films on then Richer Sounds are offering you the chance to win a Panasonic 55” 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV including a sound bar and Blu-ray player too. Enter your details here by 4th November to get your name in the draw.

The ROOMedit has teamed up with online homeware boutiques LinenMe and WoolMe to offer one lucky person the opportunity to win a £1000 worth of luxurious table linen, bed linen and decorative throws; perfect to impress family and friends over the festive period. Enter here before midnight on 27th October.

Be quick and grab November’s issue of Good Housekeeping magazine on sale until 30th October. There is a code to redeem £15 off £30 online at Molton Brown or a voucher to use at a Molton Brown store; a great way to stock up on some smellies or gifts for half the price.

A quick tip if you're visiting London this winter too. As you know, River Bus and TfL have an oyster card system, and you must touch in and out on the machines to enter/exit stations. If not you are charged the maximum fare. However, if it wasn’t your fault that you weren't able to, for example due to a broken machine or power cut, you can now claim back a refund. You need to log in/register on the TfL website and your Oyster, contactless card or Apple Pay needs to be linked to your TfL account. Under the 'My cards' section, select the relevant card/account, then 'View journeys and payment history'. If any are showing a yellow warning triangle they are usually the incomplete journeys. If you click on the triangle it should come up with ‘we have no record of where you touched in/out’, you will then need to complete the form below that to submit your refund claim. Alternatively you can call TfL customer services on 0343 222 1234.

That’s it for this week, but I’ll be back next Wednesday with some more great comps and special offers. Stay lucky!
