SP Xtra: Editor's Blog

Hi, my name's Sammy and I'm the Editor of Simply Prizes magazine. Every week I'll be bringing you an update or two about any interesting competitions I find or any comping news. Plus I'll bring you any competitions or offers I find.

The sun is on its way and here's a comp to match

I had to include this comp as it kicked off a memory that makes me smile. Many years ago, I spent a summer working for a marquee company, hard work but the pay was good. And one of our jobs was to put up a tent for a car auction in the grounds of Beaulieu Palace.

Given the location, naturally it wasn't selling Escorts or Metros, these were stunning supercars being sold by Sotheby's. And almost as impressive as the cars was the car 'phone the bloke from Sotheby's had!

It only made 'phone calls and you couldn't use it if the car engine wasn't running, otherwise the car battery would be flat in five minutes. But we were so impressed and had never seen one before.

If you had tried to tell me then, that almost everyone would have a 'phone, thousands of times more powerful in my lifetime, I would have just laughed at you. It just goes to show how much we take for granted.

Win an overnight stay for two at The Montagu Arms, Beaulieu, Hampshire - closes 23rd August 2021 - click here to enter

The papers are telling me that the rain is almost over and another heat wave is on its way, in anticipation here's a chance to win an afternoon tea hamper from Dukeshill - closes 22nd August 2021 - click here to enter

Question: Which range of product from Dukeshill holds a Royal Warrant to HM The Queen?

Our advice: Cured hams

And this reminded me of that daft competition from Brewdog, where they claimed you could win 'a beer can made of gold worth £50K', which then turned out to be little more than gold paint. And still the company tried to justify the valuation, saying the value came from the cans rarity.

I'd love someone to put one up on eBay and see how much they actually get? Sometimes promoters are better just admitting they made a mistake, they look even sillier the longer they keep going.

Anyway my question is, what's worth £350, the bottle of tequila or the 'unique bar tool', and if so who's come up with the valuation and why? If you win, please tell us if you think it is worth £350.

Question: How many of the Pedro y Juana x Maestro DOBEL Tejolote bar tool were made?

Our advice: 20
